Title of talk: Emmett Technique
Time: 7.30pm-09.15pm
Venue: Highbury Theatre, Sheffield Road, Sutton Coldfield, B73 5HD
Costs: £5 Members, £8 Non-members, £3 Students
Summary of talk: The Emmett Technique

The Emmett Technique involves the application of light finger pressure at specific points, called "EMMETT points". The points are not the same as trigger points or acupressure points or other points described in any other therapy. The pressure required to stimulate the EMMETT points need not be firm or painful. "No pain no gain" has no place in EMMETT Technique philosophy.  Although often combined with other techniques, the EMMETT Technique is an efficient standalone therapy, a complete self-study spiritual thought system.

Clients can be treated seated, standing or lying down; and can be combined with other techniques. Emmett can be applied directly to the skin or through clothing.
It is suggested that the EMMETT Technique may interact with the body as described in the science of Critical Point Analysis which identifies that...
"In any highly complex system there is a specific, critical point at which the smallest input will result in the greatest change"
For example a light touch on a small cog can halt the largest engine. The stimulation is registered by the receiver's nervous system and their brain responds by sending new instructions back to affect the physical state of the localised area. The effect can often be instantaneous.

Title of talk: Dealing with Grief
Time: 7.30pm-09.15pm
Venue: Highbury Theatre, Sheffield Road, Sutton Coldfield, B73 5HD
Costs: £5 Members, £8 Non-members, £3 Students
Summary of talk: We all think we know what to say or do when we hear someone talk about something that has hurt them, but do we? What happens after someone dies? What do you say or do? What happens to the feelings and emotions that carry on long after the burial? What do you do with your feelings around losing someone you love because they walked out on you or after a redundancy?
As therapists it is our job to care for, listen and treat our clients with professionalism, respect and a good ear but what do you actually do when a client is grieving? Would you know? Have you really any idea what it means to be there for them or for a loved one? Are you just guessing, winging it or hoping that what you say will help?
In an evening discussing Grief, find out how to help your clients and your loved ones that are grieving as well as:

  • The major myths of grief
  • What is Grief?
  • Why Depression, PTSD and stress are actually Grief issues
  • How do you listen to your clients?
  • What do you say and not say?
  • How do you support someone in a crisis?
