PACT - Professional Association of Clinical Therapists
FHT member and general practitioner, Dr Kaur Birinder, practices and teaches Complementary Therapies on a part-time basis.
Having qualified in conventional medicine from the University of Madras, India in 1986, Birinder went on to work at the NHS from 1987, gaining a wealth of experience in hospital based jobs. She specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology and obtained her MRCOG in 1993.
In 1995 Birinder re-evaluated her professional options and trained as a general practitioner, starting with personal growth and development. She found the shift in career life-transforming and her enthusiasm for and interest in integrating healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels only grew. Birinder explored several complementary therapies before training in a select few. Upon completing a diploma to teach, Birinder teaches reiki and other modalities.
Birinder also completed her appraiser training in 2014 and enjoys carrying out work as a Medical Appraiser. The role, though very rewarding, also brings awareness to the stress and pressure colleagues are faced with on a regular basis.
Her job roles as a GP have ranged from GP partner, independent locum, sessional GP to salaried GP. Birinder is currently working as a sessional GP, with an approach of integrating conventional medicine and complementary therapies, facilitating holistic healing that empowers individuals to find balance and harmony in their lives.
