Topic: Hypnotherapy with Dilys McFarlane

There are many myths surrounding the use of hypnotism, mainly stemming from watching stage hypnotists at shows or on television.  On the one hand, hypnotism can seem a bit scary, giving the impression that the hypnotist has complete control over the participant and is able to make them do anything the hypnotist commands.  On the other hand, it could give the impression that the hypnotist has magic powers and, once in trance, a person could just be told to stop an unwanted behaviour, and will immediately stop, without having to think about it. While it is true that hypnotism is a vey powerful tool, which can stop unwanted habits and behaviours and make positive changes in your life, a hypnotherapist cannot make anyone do anything against their will. Changes can only be made if the person in trance want them to.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) has been defined as the study of excellence.  It is a form of psychotherapy which can also be used in a non-therapeutic context such as business, education, sport and coaching. From a therapeutic standpoint, it can help with goal setting, treating phobias, treating anxiety and performance stress, breaking habits and much more. Together with hypnotherapy, NLP can make powerful changes to help you achieve the life you want. At the FHT meeting I will be talking about hypnotherapy and NLP, dispelling some of the myths and demonstrating some of the tools and techniques used to achieve these desired changes.
