Venue: St Barnabas Hospice, Hawthorn Road, Lincoln, LN2 4QX
Topic: Acupuncture in palliative care - Kate Booth - Senior Physiotherapist at St Barnabas Hospice
Kate qualified from the University of Teesside in 2003 as a physiotherapist, initially specialising in occupational health and musculoskeletal medicine. She had my own practice in Cumbria, but missed the support of colleagues so left it behind to work with the Armed Forces. Her next step was then a stint abroad, working in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It was there that she first became involved in palliative care which, due to the differences in culture and in the healthcare system, was at the forefront of much of her work. Kate returned to the UK in April 2015 and began working at St Barnabas as Senior Physiotherapist, utilising acupuncture and lymphoedema a part of the service she provides for patients.

Venue: St Barnabas Hospice, Hawthorn Road, Lincoln, LN2 4QX
Topic: Dawn Turner, Clinical Education and Governance Facilitator at St Barnabas Hospice, Lincolnshire, who joined us to talk about the importance of information governance & record keeping.

She said that nurses must keep clear accurate records relevant to practice and such records are legal documents. She reminded us that any patient treatment record should always be accurate, factual, legible, without unnecessary abbreviations, jargon or speculation. It should also be dated, timed and signed and whether it is paper or electronic record, it must be kept securely. It was suggested that it would be best practice for all treatment records made by complementary therapists follow the same guidance. Examples of inadequately completed documentation were circulated for discussion. Dawn then drew the talk to a close and answered questions put to her.
