Topic: An Introduction To Somatic Movements with Alison Emery
Alison says: I am a clinical massage therapist and an Essential Somatics Movement Teacher. I specialise in helping people out of pain. During Covid, like many therapists, my massage business closed. However, I was fortunate enough to be able to continue to help clients manage their pain with Somatics Movements when I introduced my online classes which have been very successful. Over the past decade working as a clinical massage therapist, I came to realise that self-care was the most important component for clients remaining pain free. While clinical massage can be very affective for relieving chronic pain in the short term it doesn't often solve the problem in the long term. This is because chronic pain and muscle stiffness are often caused by postural habits which have accumulated over time in a response to the way we live our lives. We are usually unable to break these habits because we are unaware we are doing them. The brain and nervous system are no longer connecting with the muscles efficiently. Change only occurs when this connection between the brain and the muscles is re-established. Somatic Movements help to increase your awareness of how your body moves and feels so that you can regain full conscious control of your muscles and improve your postural habits. Somatic Movements are gentle movements suitable for anyone of any age. They help with problems such as back pain, neck and shoulder pain, hip pain, sciatica, headaches, stress and much more.

Topic: An introduction to Baby Massage by Ingrid Perrin
Baby Massage is a modality dear to my heart. In my fourteen years as a Holistic Therapist providing aromatherapy massage, reflexology and pregnancy massage, I’ve aimed to bring some ease and comfort to each client through the simple means of nurturing touch and by holding space for them, as well as with more technical and nuanced work. It always comes back to positive touch, making that simple but very profound connection between hand and shoulder, hand and foot, or hand and back. As I found more pregnant clients coming my way, I trained in maternity reflexology and pregnancy massage, and found increasing numbers of women coming to me in the final trimester who wanted help easing back pain and aching legs, reassurance about the upcoming labour and even coming in as a last-ditch attempt to encourage labour through reflexology. It seemed a natural step to find some baby massage training so I could continue to offer something of value to these clients. I trained with Kate Pigeon-Owen in IAIM work and in 2012 I started running these classes for new parents. Last year, encouraged by Jackie Hamilton, I dusted off and revised my own baby massage instructor course and had it accredited by the FHT. The course is suitable for qualified massage therapists and beauty therapists who have included the massage route in their training. In this webinar I’d like to introduce myself, set out what is included in this diploma, take some questions and also discuss career paths and what nurturing touch means to us individually. I hope my webinar will be of interest whether you’re particularly drawn to baby massage, are curious to find out more, or have made/are considering a change in your holistic practice. I’ve found that for every online webinar I’ve attended in the past 14 months or so, there have been some gems of inspiration and information and I hope that this one offers the same!
