Date: 15 April 2019
Time: 7pm - 9pm
Venue: No Sign Wine Bar, Wind Street, Swansea, SA1 1EG
Topic: Light touch therapies to ease discomfort and restore movement with Judith Johnson

Discussion and demonstration on the light touch therapies of Sharon Wheeler’s Scarwork and the EMMETT Technique with Judith Johnson. Scarring can cause major problems with pain and discomfort and using a gentle and caring touch can help restore the integrity of the fascial layers of the scar. EMMETT Technique is a gentle and focussed method of working with the soft tissues of the body to release tension and promote relaxation. This results in less discomfort and improved body balance and movement. Judith has been a practising Complementary Therapist since 2004 and now focuses on these two light touch methods of helping to release muscle tension and ease discomfort. She has been an EMMETT Practitioner since 2007; is now a Certified Advanced EMMETT Practitioner and also a tutor for the short introductory course (EMM-Tech) and the EMMETT Practitioner Course with her main responsibility being Wales and the Borders. Judith has also recently qualified as an EMMETT for Dogs practitioner and is about to set up her canine practice. Sharon Wheeler’s Scarwork is a recent addition to Judith’s work since early 2018 and she has also taken the Advanced Breast Surgery course in order to further help the people she already sees with restricted movement and discomfort following breast cancer.

Topic: Mental Health First Aid with Mike Ring

I hope you'll be able to join us for our next meeting when we'll be joined by Mike Ring who is a Mental Health First Aid trainer. Mike has over 30 years’ experience within the NHS, 15 years of that as a front-line Paramedic. He has not only dealt with issues faced as a Health Care Professional but has also experienced them on a personal basis. Mike will give an overview of what mental Health First Aid is, the stigma surrounding mental health, and provide advice on starting a conversation with a patient. The session aims to help participants recognise mental health problems at an early stage, with the goal of stopping any progression into a serious mental health issue.
