Q. How can I reinstate my membership and insurance?
A. Reinstating your membership and insurance is quick and easy to do. If you were a member in the last 3 years, it’s likely that we still have copies of your qualifications on file. To proceed, we just need you to complete a new application form, here: fht.org.uk/member
If you have had a long break from practising therapies and now wish to start up again, we would recommend that you undertake refresher courses, however, this is not compulsory. Refresher courses can be completed with any training provider. Please visit our website to see if there are any courses in your area that may be of interest to you fht.org.uk/education-and-events
When your membership has been re-instated you will start to receive membership benefits, including: copies of our magazine, International Therapist, and regular e-updates; access to the members area where you can download a logo for your marketing materials, along with information and guidance for getting back to business; and lots more. Q. What is the difference between an FHT Member and FHT Associate?
A. As a Member you are required to gain 10 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points each year. For more information on CPD please visit www.fht.org.uk/cpd. If you are unable to achieve 10 CPD points in the year, you can join or renew as an FHT Associate member, however you will not be entitled to appear on the FHT Directory or Accredited Register.
Q. Do I need to become a member to obtain insurance through the FHT?
A. Yes, our tailor-made Combined Medical Malpractice, Public and Products Liability insurance package is only available to FHT members. If you obtain your insurance from another provider, you must provide a copy of your insurance certificate when you join / renew your membership with the FHT.
Q. What insurance indemnity package is right for me, £3million or £6million?
A. The level of indemnity refers to the highest amount that the policy will pay out in any one claim. Choosing which indemnity level is right for you will depend on your work circumstances. For example, it could be that you are treating highly paid professionals, professional athletes you work for a local authority where they may request a minimum of £5million or your employer may request that you hold a higher indemnity insurance level. Ultimately you would need to take out the appropriate level suitable to your needs.
Note: Treating a professional athlete is classed as a ‘material fact’ therefore you must notify your insurer.
Q. I am only practising on friends and family, can I apply for the Affiliate level?
A. No, Affiliate membership is only applicable for those that are not practising at all but still have an interest in the therapy industry, for instance, therapists taking a career break or who are retired.
Q. I am studying towards a qualification but I am already a qualified therapist. Can I apply to be an FHT Student member?
A. No, as you are already a qualified therapist you cannot apply for the student level as this is only applicable for those studying towards their first therapy qualification.
Please apply for the Member or Associate level along with our Combined Medical Malpractice, Public and Products Liability insurance package. This full insurance will cover you for what you are qualified in, as well as any case studies for other qualifications you may be studying towards that are accepted by the FHT for membership and insurance purposes. If you hold insurance from another provider, you must provide a copy of your insurance certificate when you join.
Q. I am an FHT Student member and have recently completed my qualification. I would like to study another therapy. Can I continue to use my student insurance now I am qualified?
A. No, as you are now a qualified therapist your student insurance becomes void. You would need to upgrade to a full FHT Member or Associate and hold appropriate medical malpractice insurance. As a graduation gift, your £24.99 student fee will be discounted off the full FHT Member fee when you upgrade.
The full insurance will cover you for what you have newly qualified in as well as any case studies for other qualifications you may be studying towards, as long as the qualification meets our criteria.

Q. I completed my qualification(s) outside of the UK. Can I apply for FHT membership?
A. Yes, we would need to review and map your qualification(s) to the national UK standards. In order to complete this process we would require you to provide us with copies of your qualification certificates and transcripts, officially translated into English where appropriate. As this process involves extra administration, there is a one-off non-refundable fee of £50.
If you cannot provide us with copies of your qualification certificates and transcripts, officially translated into English, then it will not be possible for us to proceed and a full refund will be processed. At the end of the online application it will ask, “Were your qualifications obtained outside the UK?”, you must select yes to pay the £50 review fee – we cannot continue without this payment. The review process and fee are necessary even if you have approached another company to have your qualifications verified i.e. UK NARIC. Q. How can I add a new therapy to my membership listing?
A. You can update your qualifications by logging into the Members’ area of the FHT website www.fht.org.uk/membersarea and click on ‘update your qualifications’. If you are having trouble logging in you can simply send an attachment of your qualification by email to email@example.com along with your membership number. Please do make sure that the picture attachment can be clearly seen.
Q. I am not an aromatherapist, am I insured to use products that contain essential oils?

Q. Can I pay for my membership and insurance in instalments?
A. Currently the FHT does not offer monthly instalments. We do however offer an annual direct debit payment for membership and insurance, which includes a 5% discount off the membership fee.
