The group provides opportunity to hear talks, see demonstrations on a wide range of topics by fellow therapists and knowledgeable people and professional speakers. A great evening and chance to network and swap ideas. Our meetings are open to everyone, FHT Members, non-members, general public other therapists, Complementary Practitioners and students. Topic: British Sign Language with Melody Dark
My name is Melody Dark and I am currently a peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf in Wigan & Leigh. I became involved in education after I decided to do British Sign Language Level 1 in 1997. That led to me volunteering at the local deaf youth group where I met deaf people for the very first time! It was this experience that made me realise that I wanted to help d/D young people. I managed to get a job as a Communication Support Worker because of my volunteering work (at that time I wanted to join the police!), I have never looked back. After thirteen years of experience working with many d/Deaf children, I decided to take the plunge and do my teacher training so that I could then go on to train as a Teacher of the Deaf. But first I needed a degree! It took me 6 years to complete an English Literature/Disability Studies degree and then a further year for teacher training. Then onto my NQT year. At this point I could apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Deaf Education. I qualified in 2017. For the past 3 years I have been working in Wigan & Leigh and absolutely love it. I am looking forward to sharing my Deaf Awareness presentation with you all which will include:-

Topic: Mindfulness with Bob Wheat
For the past 11 years, Bob has worked as a Hypnotherapist dealing with clients presenting with anxiety, stress, confidence building, weight control, fears and phobias, smoking, IBS, and many other issues. Teaching Tai Chi for the last 11 years, since lockdown the classes are now on line. Tai Chi is also part of a mindfulness course. Bob has been interested in mindfulness for the past 15 years, gaining a teacher qualification 7 years ago. Mindfulness may help improve mental and physical health increasing the number of hours of sleep, confidence building, having more energy, feeling less stressed and anxious. Come along to this interesting talk learning how Bob has taken his teachings online during the pandemic.
